Join
CAT!
The CAT Team meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at
10:00 am. Please join our Community Action Team, whose mission is to use the
resources and generosity of Center members to make a difference in the Sioux
Falls community. The team's objectives are:
1) To provide an avenue and drop off point for Center members to donate much
needed items to non-profit groups in Sioux Falls. Such projects may include: a
food drive, hats/blankets for the homeless, or toiletries for the Children's
Inn.
2) To provide a community outreach team for special events for organizations
serving children and the elderly. This may include holding a monthly birthday
party at a children's residential program, or a holiday party at a nursing home.
Our CAT members will go in with fun food and party favors and make a dull day
into a bright and cheery occasion for these special people.
The Second Chance Rescue is
the special agency the team is highlighting this spring. Second Chance's mission
is "to speak for all animals great and small that cannot speak for themselves."
This supply drive will run from April 1 through the end of June. The items most
needed include: Purina dry dog and puppy chow, collars (all sizes), leashes (all
sizes), canned dog and puppy chow, canned cat food, bleach, cat toys, litter
boxes, non-clumping cat litter, Booda bones (digestible chew bones).
The CAT team also does community outreach.
The St. Francis House opened its doors to the homeless of Sioux Falls on March
15, 1987. During the past two decades, the St. Francis House has served
approximately 425 people each year who have issues with addictions,
disabilities, mental health, and physical health. They now have five two-family
housing units. and plan to open another 4 units in December 2009. The mission of
the St. Francis House is: "To move people from homelessness to hope". They do
this by offering a myriad of services intended to assist individuals with
long-term self sufficiency. St. Francis House provides individuals with a safe
place to stay, teach them to respect boundaries, and follow rules, locate
community resources to meet their needs and issues, assist with obtaining and
maintaining employment with benefits, secure transportation, enroll children in
school or child care, manage money and other general life skills, and provide
health care and GED services.
The Saint Francis House has needs in so
many areas. Products are from al price ranges so the next time you're in the
store, pick up an extra of something and drop it in the CAT Teams donation box
located in the Center's foyer. You can pick up a complete list of needed
products in the Center's foyer. Here are some needed items:
-
Personal hygiene products (deodorant,
shampoo, bath soap, disposable razors, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste,
foot powder, feminine hygiene products)
-
Medical supplies (band aids, aspirin or
other pain relievers, cold medicine)

napkins)
-

to truly make a difference. We hope many members will get involved with CAT and
give back to our great community and those who need help. To get involved, contact Lisa Howard at 333-3307 or
