FREE
Tax Preparation
The TCE Tax-Aide Program offers free federal tax
preparation for low and middle income taxpayers, with special attention to those
55 and over. Tax preparation is provided by IRS Certified volunteers. This is a
program supported by the IRS and AARP and is offered to all ages.
There is no requirement for membership either to the Center for
Active Generations or to AARP.
Please call The Center
for Active Generations at (605) 336-6722 to make an appointment beginning
January 20, 2010. Appointments will be taken for periods between 9:00 AM and
12:00 PM in the morning and between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM in the afternoon, Monday
through Friday. Saturday appointments are from 9:00 AM through 12:00 PM. Actual
tax preparation will begin on Monday, February 1, 2010. The Center is located at
2300 W 46th Street (between Kiwanis and Western Avenues).
Please remember to bring
your last year's tax return, all income related documents, and some form of
identification. Those individuals who may receive a refund, and wish it to be
deposited directly into a checking or saving account, should bring their banking
information. We find that most taxpayers wish to have their tax returns E-Filed.
This, too, is a free service at our site.
There are several new tax
credits available this year. So, bring any documents you have concerning the
purchase of a new car, the purchase of energy efficiency products and your
property tax information.
Our Tax-Aide group still
needs some assistance in taking tax preparation appointments. If you are
available for just a few hours a month, it would be wonderful! If you can help,
please call Charlotte at (605) 332-5245 or 321-6839.

The CAT Team meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am. Please join our
Community Action Team, whose mission
is to use the resources and generosity of Center members to make a difference in
the Sioux Falls community. The team's objectives are:
1) To provide an avenue and drop off point for Center members to donate much
needed items to non-profit groups in Sioux Falls. Such projects may include: a
food drive, hats/blankets for the homeless, or toiletries for the Children's
Inn.
2) To provide a community outreach team for special events for organizations
serving children and the elderly. This may include holding a monthly birthday
party at a children's residential program, or a holiday party at a nursing home.
Our CAT members will go in with fun food and party favors and make a dull day
into a bright and cheery occasion for these special people.
