All levels of computer literacy are welcomed and encouraged to get involved. A light supper will be served with a free-will offering. The Learning Center Board will also give an update on the new changes and improvements being made with the upgrade to Windows 7. What class should I take? The Sioux Falls Computer Learning Center has begun a new Class tier system to better assist our students in knowing what classes to take. It is strongly recommended that you follow this class level system (Levels 1 through 4). Please sign up for a lower level number class (level 1 or 2) prior to signing up for the more advanced classes in level 3 or 4.

If a student does not have access to the software at home they should  plan to spend time practicing in the Center’s Lab. There are computers in the Center’s Practice Lab with the appropriate software for the Windows 7 classes.

Level 2 courses follow Level 1-Computer Fundamentals. Students must be able to click, double click, and right click and know how to open a program using the Start menu.  If you don’t have the necessary mouse skills or need to have any of these terms explained, please enroll in the Computer Fundamentals class.

Level 3 courses follow Level 2-Introduction to Computers.  Equivalent skills include being able to efficiently use programs such as WordPad, Internet Explorer, and an email program.  They should understand how to use ribbons, menu bars, and toolbars.

Level 4 courses follow Level 3-Exploring Windows 7.  Students should regularly use and feel comfortable with a variety of programs such as a word processor, a genealogy program, the Windows Live programs.  They should understand how to save files that they have created and how to organize their files.

Convert VHS tapes to DVD. Do you have VHS home videos you would like on a DVD? As part of our efforts to raise money to buy new computers for the classroom, we are now offering everyone a service that we think is much needed. We now have the equipment to convert your old VHS home videos to DVD. DVD is much easier to make copies of to give out to other family members and the old VHS tape can get degraded over time and is more susceptible to the elements. DVD format will preserve your videos for a long time. The cost is $15 for the first VHS and $10 for any others. If you would like multiple copies of the final DVD, those will be $5 each. So bring in your old VHS tapes and help us out! If you would like this service, please contact Lisa Howard at the Center. You will need to fill out an information sheet and put down a down payment to secure the job. Please research both your TV's DVD player and your computer's player to know what type of DVDs they will play. There are both DVD + r and DVD - r and the volunteers will need to know which you would like your final product on. Form more information contact Lisa Howard at 333-3308 or email lhoward@cfag.org.

No Typing Skills? Try our new typing class. Due to the high demand by our members who want to learn how to type, the Center has started a new typing class to begin in March. The class will help you learn how to type, starting with the home row keys. The class will meet for four 1-hour sessions. The program can be accessed from any computer so students can practice at any time from home or in the Center's computer lab. The more students practice, the more proficient they will become. Check for course times and dates in the Current Computer class schedule listed below.
