Art Classes
Quilting Club: Every Tuesday at 10:00 am, Room 201
The Center's quilting club is a great way to learn about quilting or share your own experience with others. This wonderful group makes lap robes for nursing homes, as well as small baby quilts and larger quilts to sell in our gift shop. People with quilting experience are encouraged to help members who would like to learn more about quilting. People who would like to learn more about quilting are welcome to come and learn. People with quilting experience are encouraged to come and help members who would like to learn more about quilting. This club also meets on some Wednesdays, depending on the projects in progress. The club needs a sewing machine to do more elaborate crafts and projects. Their current machines do not have the zig-zag option. Call 333-3307 if you have a machine to donate.
Painting & Drawing Open Studio: Tues & Wed, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Room 132, On-going class.
Learn about oils, watercolors, and drawing. Students mentor each other. No registration required. Cost: Own supplies
Gift Shop Crafters: Thursdays, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, Room 201
This creative and informal group gets together weekly to make craft items for the Center's gift shop: dish towels, baby items and other crafts. Help is greatly needed and is always very much appreciated. Join these crafters and bring your enthusiasm and ideas!
Woodcarving Club: Mondays, 9:00 am, Room 132
The Center's Woodcarving Club led by member Frank Orthmeyer, meets every Monday at 9:00 am in the Art Room. For more information, contact Frank at 333-9980
Knitting Club: Mondays, 9:30 am, Room 201
The Center's new Knitting Club meets Wednesday mornings at 9:30 in the Center's coffee shop. Come and learn to knit or bring a project that your are working on and socialize with other knitters. The club is also helping the community by knitting baby hats for Avera McKennan Hospital's newborn nursery! Come join the fun, learn to knit and help the community at the same time!

New Horizons Band: Fridays, 10 - 12 noon.
If you want to "play music" again, check out www.newhorizonsmusic.org. The New Horizons Band of Sioux Falls is a member of the new Horizons International Musical Association whose goal is to encourage people over 50 (pre-seniors also welcome) to play an instrument. We are actively seeking new members from Sioux Falls and the surrounding area. Research indicates playing music makes positive difference in the health and well-being of seniors. What could be better -- playing music with friends and enjoying a healthier, longer life? Dust off your horn and your skills and join us on Fridays from 10 to noon for practice in Lillehaug Rehearsal Hall located in the humanities Building on the Augustana College campus, 33rd and Grange, Sioux Falls, SD. Drama Club: 2nd & 4th Mondays at 10:30 am.
The Center's Gold 'n Silver Drama Club is seeking new members to join their troupe. You don't have to be a "seasoned" actor or actress to participate in this group. There's a spot for everyone! If you like to have fun, if you can sing, dance or have skills in decorating or working with clothes/costumes, the club wants you! There are fun opportunities to help behind the scenes as well as on the stage! The Gold 'n Silver Drama Club performs at the Center's birthday pa rties throughout the year and also puts on one large production each year. If you are a "ham" and like to "act up", join us. Creative Memories: Monday, August 4 from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm in Room 201
This class will introduce beginners to the hobby of scrapbooking. The class fee ($10) includes instructions, materials, handouts, and supplies to make your first scrapbook page. Bring 6 - 8 pictures of one theme for this page. If you have taken this introductory class already, sign up for the workshop held at the same time. The cost of the workshop is only $5. Registration deadline: Friday, prior to class.
Painting on Glass: 2 Mondays, July 21 & 28 at 1:00 pm in Room 132. Learn how to do some easy brush strokes to create flowers, leaves and stems. You will use these new strokes to decorate a glass plate which you will take home and bake in the oven to finish. Use your new skills to decorate many household items such as drinking glasses, wine glasses, vases and candle holders. You can easily make gifts using your new talent. All supplies are included in the class fee.  Instructor: Betty Schriever. Cost: $15.00. Registration deadline is July 18.
Folk Art Roses: 2 Thursdays - August 21 7 28 at 1:00 pm in Room 132. Learn to make a rose in seven strokes with a double-loaded brush. Paint a clay pot or on glass or wood. The surface will determine the type of paint used.
Introduction to Drawing: 8 Thursdays, September 11 - October 30 at 10:00 am in Room 132
This class is for beginners or artists that have not picked up a pad or pencil for a while. Instructor, Leah Simmons, will take you on an eight-week exploration of drawing. Learn drawing basics such as shading, perspective, composition and drawing mediums. Subject matter will include everything from still-life to landscapes and portraits. Com ready to explore and energize your creative side. Supplies needed: 1 large and 1 small sketch pad, pencils, compressed charcoal, and kneaded eraser.
Instructor: Leah Simmons, Center member and Art Major.
Registration deadline: September 8.
